Wesley Roberts has spent 35 years teaching evolution in TN public schools. He will share his extensive knowledge of the Scopes Trial (including brief audience re-enactments of key moments). In the decades since, the law was repealed (1967) and bills in 1973 (Genesis Bill for “equal time” defeated by AU), 1996 (Monkey Bill or fact vs. theory), and 2011 (Teach the Controversy Bill) were introduced in the TN Legislature. Roberts shares his personal experience with each as a high school senior, a nationally recognized opponent, and a legislative testimonial witness. Experiences in presenting evolutionary science in a religiously conservative area will follow with exercises in creative interactive discussion methods for workshop participants.
