Unmasking the Influence: The Koch Network, Book Bans, and the Fight for Academic Freedom in Schools
Date & Time
Sunday, April 6, 2025, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Jasmine Banks
Description

This 60-minute session will examine the role of both conservative and liberal actors, such as the Koch network, Broad Foundation, Gates Foundation, and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, in driving book bans, censorship, and privatization efforts in public schools. Drawing from UnKoch My Campus’s work, the session highlights how these groups—though ideologically different—are advancing policies that undermine academic freedom, suppress discussions of race, gender, and LGBTQ+ rights, and promote ideological censorship. Attendees will explore strategies to challenge these powerful influences and protect the integrity of public education.
