Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine: Unmasking Hard-Right “Religious Freedom” Rhetoric
Date & Time
Sunday, April 6, 2025, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Naomi Washington-Leapheart R.G. Cravens
Description

Participants will learn the white supremacist underpinnings of “religious freedom” rhetoric with examples from SPLC’s Intelligence Project. Among the hard-right, the concept of “religious freedom” is synonymous with conservative Christian oppression. It is a rhetorical device advancing a sectarian political agenda, and it is propped up by an inflated victim narrative constructed by co-opting attacks on Black and Brown, LGBTQ+, and non-Christian faith communities. After an interactive presentation focusing on the history of “religious freedom” rhetoric, participants will engage in facilitated discussion and scenario-planning in small groups. Session participants will leave with an action plan empowering their pursuit of pluralism.
